ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Deirdre (nope not Bettie!) To get the basics out of the way, I am a mom of three and I have been married since 2001. Yep, I'm "old" and I am a mom, but please don't mistake this for a "mom blog." Moms have other interests outside of their families, I promise!
I started Modern Bettie because I needed to have that space to express all those things I love and maybe find a way to connect with other people that love them too. I am a fan of all things mid century, fashion, beauty, movies, tv, music, etc, but I am not a vintage purist. I fall somewhere a little closer to the Rockabilly category. I love living in the digital age and don't feel like "I was born in the wrong era" (see my "Why Modern Bettie" post for more details), I just love the aesthetic I and I live to have fun with it. Style should always be fun and never taken too seriously, so if you are expecting to find a blog about a true vintage life (complete vintage outfits, replica outfits, a home with vintage furniture and fixtures, etc), you might be in the wrong place, but I can recommend plenty if that is what you are looking for! I love those girls too, I just am not one of them. "Retro Inspired" pieces are more my style. True classic entertainment? We can talk about that all day! And don't worry, we probably will. Side note: my ultimate fantasy job is film historian.
Oh! I almost forgot! I love food so there will be snacks, and I always share! No, my recipes don't necessarily have a vintage slant (though some may be older than I am) but I promise they are all delicious (I make no promises they will be healthy).
